The main difference between Brother TN221 vs TN225 is tn-225 offers much more toner in the cartridge so you can print more pages per cartridge.
Both brother tn221 and tn225 support various printer models. There are total seven printers using TN 221, most of these can use TN 225 for color which are better value. The tn225 series has 2200 page print limit, while tn221 toner series has a various generally lower page limit of 1400. Under mention is a comparison between both of these:

TN221
There are total four toners under TN 221. These are best for A4 size prints certified by ISO. Below are the four toner cartridges that would have been with your new printer (TN221 cartridges).
- TN221BK: This Toner can print up to 2500 A4 pages. There is no larger black toner for any of these printers. There are various shops available to buy from, normal price of original brother black toner costs range from $50 to $60. The ink used in this Toner is black. We however recommend compatible toners from House Of Inks, much cheaper!
- TN221C: Total number of pages this Toner support is 1400. The pages it supports are A4 size. The price ranges from $50 to $60 for original brother toners. It is much cheaper to use compatible toners TN225. The ink used in this cartridge is Cyan.
Don’t buy tn 221c as TN225C prints 2200 pages. - TN221M and TN221Y: Just like TN221C, these also have 1400 page limit, with A4 size page support. The price range of this original brother Toner is $40 to $60. The ink in TN221M is Magenta, while TN221Y has yellow ink cartridge.
Again don’t but TN221Y or TN221M as TN225Y and TN225M print 2200 pages.

Again please note the black TN221BK is the only black cartridge that can be used for any of these printers there is no tn225bk.
